coalfield in Jelenia Gra wojewdztwo (province), southwestern Poland, at the border of Poland with the Czech Republic and Germany. The Turoszw Coal Basin has an area of 52 square miles (135 square km), making it the largest lignite deposit in Lower Silesia; it is twice as large as the deposit at Legnica. The Turoszw brown-coal basin has been extensively mined and has produced more coal than any other coal reserve in the country. Two open-cast coal mines (Turw I and Turw II) and Poland's largest thermoelectric power plant operate in the basin near the town of Bogatynia.
