district municipality forming a suburb of Vancouver, southwestern British Columbia, Canada. It lies on the north side of the entrance to Burrard Inlet, across from the city of Vancouver. West Vancouver is an almost exclusively residential community adjacent to North Vancouver and is connected to Vancouver by the Lions Gate Bridge. Bordered by mountains, up to 5,000 feet (1,500 m), on one side and the Strait of Georgia on the other, the district is a popular recreation area with excellent facilities. Ferries operate between Vancouver Island and the suburb. Inc. 1912. Pop. (1991) 38,783.
