village, Greene county, southwestern Ohio, U.S. It lies 23 miles (37 km) east-northeast of Dayton. Founded in 1804, it was named for a local mineral spring, which later (182080) was the site of a health resort. The village's manufactures include aluminum castings, bronze art castings, rubber and plastic components, scientific instruments, stained glass, and bookplates. Yellow Springs is the seat of Antioch University, founded in 1852 with Horace Mann as its first president, now with several campuses elsewhere in the United States. Fels Longitudinal Study, of the Wright State University School of Medicine, is also located there. John Bryan State Park is a few miles southeast. Inc. 1856. Pop. (1990) 3,973; (1994 est.) 4,084.
