Meaning of BOAT RACE in English

a race that takes place each year on the River Thames in west London, England, between rowing teams from the universities of Oxford and Cambridge . Unlike other sports contests between the two universities, it is seen as a national event and is watched by many people on television. The first Boat Race was in 1829.
