I . Cecil Day-Lewis

(1904–72)

an English poet and author, born in Ireland. In the 1930s he was a member of the left-wing group of poets led by W H Auden . He also wrote detective stories under the name Nicholas Blake. He was made Poet Laureate in 1968.

II . Daniel Day-Lewis

(1958– )

an English actor who became well known in 1985 for his parts in the films My Beautiful Laundrette and A Room with a View . He won an Oscar for his performance in My Left Foot (1989). His other films include The Unbearable Lightness of Being (1987), The Last of the Mohicans (1992), The Age of Innocence (1993), The Crucible (1996) and Gangs of New York (2002). He is the son of Cecil Day-Lewis and is married to the artist and film director Rebecca Miller.
