a beautiful part of the Appalachian Mountains that separates Tennessee from North Carolina . It gets its name from the thin clouds like smoke which often cover the valleys. The highest point is Clingman’s Dome (6 642 feet/2 026 metres). Most of the area is within the Great Smoky Mountains National Park which was established in 1934 and was made a World Heritage Site in 1983.
