The words Honi soit qui mal y pense (the motto of the Order of the Garter ) are written on a belt around the shield. Underneath are the words Dieu et mon droit (the personal motto of the king or queen). Companies with a royal warrant to supply goods to members of the royal family may use the royal arms on their products, etc.
