Unlike the State's other four water management districts, Southwest Florida is further divided into nine hydrologic subdistricts, or basins, eight of which have Basin Boards. (The ninth basin--the Green Swamp--is administered by the Governing Board because the region has District-wide hydrologic significance.) Members of the Basin Boards are also appointed by the Governor and confirmed by the Senate. Each of the eight Basin Boards must include one representative from each county within the basin and have at least three members. Each Basin Board has a Governing Board member(s) who sits as the Ex Officio (Chairs) for the Basin in his/her respective geographic region.
