in geostatistical analysis, sometimes the data is required to be normally distributed. When the data is skewed(lopsided), it must be transformed to be normal. If a transformation is chosen before creating a surface using geostatistics, the predictions will be transformed back to the original scale.
Note: Transformations and trend removal can help justify assumptions of normality and stationarity for kriging .
