PARKING BRAKE

Hand or foot operated brake which prevents vehicle movement while parked by locking rear wheels, or transmission output shaft . One type applies the rear brake shoes by mechanical means and the other type applies a brake band to a brake drum installed in the drivetrain . Also see emergency brake .
