U.S. jockey.
He became the second jockey (after Eddie Arcaro ) ever to win five Kentucky Derbies (1957, 1960, 1962, 1964, 1969). In 1956 he became the first jockey to win $2 million in a single year; he surpassed $3 million the following year. In 1972 he became the fifth jockey ever to win over 4,000 races.
