It flows northwest into the Seine River near Paris . It is navigable for 220 mi (350 km) of its total length of 326 mi (525 km) and has extensive canals. Its valley was the scene of crucial battles in World War I (see First Battle of the Marne ; Second Battle of the Marne ).
