Meaning of ARGES RIVER in English

river, that rises in the South ern Carpathians, on the southern faces of Moldoveanu and Negoiu peaks in the Fagaras Range, southern Romania. The river's principal tributaries from the mountains include the Vlsan, Doamnei, and Trgului rivers. It flows southward through Curtea de Arges and Pitesti, in the sub-Carpathians, and then southeastward across the Danube Plain to enter the Danube near Oltenita. Its length is 203 miles (327 km), and the area of its basin is 4,850 square miles (12,550 square km). Its major tributary is the Dmbovita, which flows through Bucharest on a parallel course. A dam on the Arges at Capatneni creates Lake Vidraru, which is a reservoir for the Gheorghe Gheorghiu-Dej hydroelectric power station.
