JOSHUA TREE NATIONAL PARK

national park of colourful granite (pinto gneiss) formations, quartz monzonite boulders, and scenic lookouts in southern California, U.S. It is situated 60 miles (100 km) east of San Bernardino, on the border between the Mojave and Colorado deserts. The national park has an area of 1,241 square miles (3,214 square km) and is noted for its variety of desert plant life, including the Joshua tree, the spidery ocotillo, creosote bush, and the Mojave yucca.
