major division of deposits in Africa during the Pleistocene Epoch (1,600,000 to 10,000 years ago). The Kamasian Pluvial Stage, a period of wetter climatic conditions, followed the Kageran Pluvial Stage and is separated from it by a period of drier climate, the Kageran-Kamasian Interpluvial. The Kamasian Stage has been equated with the Mindel Glacial Stage of the Northern Hemisphere as well as with Bed II at Olduvai Gorge. Substantiation of a wetter climatic period is afforded by the presence of crocodile fossils in Kamasian sedimentary deposits.
