PRIME

Meaning of PRIME in English

any of those positive integers greater than 1, each divisible only by itself and 1-i.e., 2, 3, 5, 7, 11, 13, 17, 19, 23, . . . Every positive integer greater than 1 can be expressed as the product of only a single set of prime numbers. Primes have been recognized since at least 300 BC, when they were studied by the Greek mathematicians Euclid and Eratosthenes, yet even today there remain certain open questions regarding them.
