an occasion on 12 August every year when some of the Protestant citizens of Northern Ireland march through the streets of Derry , in memory of the day in 1689 when the army of the Roman Catholic King James II was forced to give up attacking the town. The march creates a lot of tension between Protestants and Catholics, and this sometimes leads to violence. See also Orangemen .
