I . George Bush

(1924– )

the 41st US President (1989–93) and a member of the Republican Party . He was twice the Vice-president under Ronald Reagan (1981–89). Bush was popular after the Gulf War was won in 1991, but lost support during America’s later economic problems. He was defeated by Bill Clinton in the election of 1992. His son, George W Bush, became President in 2001.

II . George W Bush

( George Walker Bush 1946– )

the 43rd US President , from 2001. He is the son of the 41st President George Bush . He is a member of the Republican Party and was previously the governor of Texas . The 2000 election for President, between Bush and the Democratic Party candidate Al Gore , was very close and in certain areas the votes had to be counted again. After several weeks, the US Supreme Court ruled that Bush had won. He became very popular in the United States for the way he acted after the attack on the World Trade Center in New York on September 11th 2001. His decision to invade Iraq in 2003 was opposed by many of America’s allies.
