the official Church in Scotland, started by John Knox and Andrew Melville in 1560, and officially accepted in 1690. It does not have bishops like the Church of England , and the members of its clergy are called ministers , rather than priests . Both men and women can be ministers. The churches of the Church of Scotland are run by a minister and a group of senior church members called elders . This system is known as Presbyterianism .
