a large Hollywood film company, producing films for the cinema and television. It was established in 1924 and its first big success was It Happened One Night (1934). Others have included Easy Rider (1969), Taxi Driver (1976) and Ghandi (1982). The company was bought by the Coca-Cola company in 1982, who sold it to Sony in 1989.
