Meaning of CRYSTAL PALACE in English

1. the Crystal Palace a very large building made of glass and metal, designed in nine days by Joseph Paxton (1801–65) for the Great Exhibition of 1851. It took six months to put up in Hyde Park in London. After the Exhibition, it was taken to a new park in south London. In 1936 it burned down. Its name was given to it by the humorous magazine Punch .
