a version of cricket in which each team bats once, within a limited period, so that the match finishes in one day. One-day matches were introduced in the 1960s to try to make cricket a more exciting game that would attract bigger television audiences. There are two popular one-day competitions for professional teams in Britain, the Cheltenham and Gloucester Trophy and the ICC Champions Trophy. There are also many one-day international matches.
