Meaning of PRESCRIPTION CHARGE in English

( in Britain ) money paid (usually to a chemist) for medicine supplied on the National Health Service . The amount paid is the same for any medicine, and is usually less than its actual cost. Some groups, e.g. old people, children, pregnant women and the unemployed, do not have to pay prescription charges.
