( also fml squash rackets ) n [ U ]
a sport for two players using rackets and a small hollow rubber ball, played in an indoor court with high walls. One player must hit the ball against the front wall, after which it can bounce against other walls and/or the floor before the other player hits it. It is a very fast game, which many people play as a way of keeping fit. It developed from the game of rackets but is now played by many more people. In the US form of the game, the ball is harder and the regular court smaller than in Britain. There are also larger courts for games of ‘doubles’ (involving four players), which are more popular than in Britain.
