MOVING AVERAGE PROCESS

(Statistics) As a simple mathematical process, the moving average process is merely a moving, fixed-interval average of a Time Series of data used to smooth fluctuations and distortions in the data and provide a more meaningful representation of underlying trends and cycles. As applied to econometric model development, a moving average process is one whereby future data values are expressed as a linear combination of past errors.
