in regression analysis, least squares method gives a line that best fits the points in the scattergram , this line also provides the best possible description of the relationship between the dependent and independent variables.
Note: In the least squares regression line equation, least squares method gives the values of a and b such that the sum squared errors( SSE ) is minimum.
