(1955–) the man who shot and killed the singer John Lennon, who had been one of the ↑ Beatles . Chapman shot Lennon in 1980 when the singer was returning to his home in the Dakota ↑ apartment building in New York City with his wife, Yoko Ono. Chapman is in prison in New York.
