SOLAR WIND

A stream of charged particles (mostly protons and electrons, with the ions of many elements) which emanates from the Sun at speeds varying from 300 to 1,000 kilometers per second. Interactions of the solar wind and Earth's upper atmosphere produce auroras and geomagnetic storms.
