National historical park, Tennessee, U.S. Created in 1940 to preserve the Cumberland Gap, a natural pass at 1,640 ft (500 m) through the Cumberland Plateau, it includes the Wilderness Road, blazed by Daniel Boone , which became the main artery that opened the Northwest Territory.
The park covers 32 sq mi (83 sq km).
