Meaning of KATAHDIN, MOUNT in English

highest point (5,269 feet [1,606 metres]) in Maine, U.S., lying in Baxter State Park, 20 miles (32 km) northwest of Millinocket, in Piscataquis county, in the east-central part of the state. The rugged mountain actually consists of a group of summits of which the highest is Baxter Peak. The mountain is the northern terminus of the Appalachian National Scenic Trail, which extends southwestward to Georgia. The mountain's name is derived from an Abnaki Indian word meaning main mountain.
