also called Brazilian pine, or candelabra tree (species Araucaria angustifolia) an important evergreen timber conifer of the family Araucariaceae, native to the mountains of southern Brazil. The Paran pine grows to 30 m (100 feet) high and bears branches in a circle about the stems. As the tree matures, the lower branches drop off, leaving a long, bare trunk with a crown of upturned branches tufted at the ends.
