Pinyin Binxian, city in Heilungkiang sheng (province), China, situated on the eastern outskirts of Harbin (Ha-erh-pin). It is the communications centre of a prosperous and productive agricultural district that supplies a large part of the foodstuffs, particularly grain and vegetables, for Harbin. In addition to its importance as a collecting and commercial centre, Pin-hsien has also developed a number of light industries, consisting principally of food processing, light engineering, the production of bricks and tiles, and woodworking.
