Meaning of SOUTH WIGHT in English

district (borough), in the southeastern and western parts of the county of Isle of Wight, England, with an area of 101 square miles (262 square km), covering more than two-thirds of the island. It is an area of seaside holiday resorts, especially Ventnor, Shanklin, and Sandown. Sandown rises from the wide sandy shore of Sandown Bay, at the southerly end of which stands Shanklin. The winding chasm of Shanklin Chine lies to the south. Pop. (1986 est.) 53,900.
