three-sectional park commemorating President Theodore Roosevelt's interest in the West, in west-central North Dakota, U.S. Established in 1947, it lies along the Little Missouri River between Medora and Watford City. The park's 110 square miles (285 square km) comprises a petrified forest, Wind Canyon, and eroded badlands north of Medora; Theodore Roosevelt's Elkhorn Ranch cabin, 22 miles (35 km) north-northwest of Medora; and a scenic badlands area 12 miles (19 km) south of Watford City. Cottonwood, elm, and ash trees thrive in the area, which is inhabited by bison, coyotes, prairie dogs, and birds.
