peak (5,710 feet ) in the San Gabriel Mountains of the Angeles National Forest, southern California, U.S. It lies just northeast of Pasadena. A highway leads to the summit, an eroded plateau, which is the site of the famous astronomical observatory, the Mount Wilson Observatory (established 1904), administered by the Carnegie Institution. The mountain was named for Benjamin Davis Wilson, who blazed a burro trail to the summit in 1864.
