a legal right in the US. The Fifth Amendment to the US Constitution states that a person cannot be ‘deprived of life, liberty or property without due process of law’. This includes a fair trial and informing people of their rights if they are suspected of a crime. Due process is an important part of the US legal system and is used by the US Supreme Court to declare some laws ‘unconstitutional’.
