OLD NORTH CHURCH

Meaning of OLD NORTH CHURCH in English

the popular name for Christ Church, built in Boston , Massachusetts , in 1723. On 19 April 1775 Paul Revere waited for a signal in its tower to tell him the British army had been seen. Henry Wadsworth Longfellow made the church famous in his poem Paul Revere’s Ride (1861), which includes the line: ‘Hang a lantern in the belfry arch of the North Church tower.’ The tower, which has the first bells ever made in America, was blown down by strong winds in 1954 and built again to its former condition.
