a type of film in which one or more characters travel across the country by road, often to escape the police. The journeys often involve violence. Well-known road movies have included Easy Rider , Badlands (1973), Smokey and the Bandit (1977), Thelma and Louise (1991) and Natural Born Killers (1994).
