(1) The lowest level of water in a body of water, such as a river, lake, or reservoir. (2) (Navigation) The depth of a navigation channel is generally referenced to the low water stage which coincides with the lowest sustained flow over a 15-day period. On most streams this is referred to as "adopted low water"; on the lower Columbia, for example, it is the "Columbia River Datum".
