Unlike the IDW which uses a simple algorithm based on distance, kriging weights come from a semivariogram that is developed by looking at the spatial structure of the data.
Note: Using the data within the specified neighborhood, together with the fitted semivariogram model, the weights for the measured points can be determined. From the weights and the values, a distinct spatial structure of samples present, then a prediction can be made for the unmeasured point.
