A color model based on human perception developed by the CIE (Commission Internationale de l'Eclairage) committee. While widely regarded as the most accurate color model, CIE is unsuitable for many technologies, including color printing and color monitors. Consequently, these systems need to use other color models, such as CMYK and RGB. There is a growing trend, however, to make all color models relative to the CIE model. This would make it easier to translate from one model to another.
