Meaning of PRI [PRIMARY RATE INTERFACE] in English

A subset of the ISDN protocol whereby the service is provided over a T1 line; it is comprised of 23 B (Bearer) channels and one D (Data) channel used for signalling, for a total throughput of 1.472 megabits per second at 100% efficiency. ISDN PRI is a fully switched, dial-up service, but is often confused with leased, dedicated T1 services such as Frame Relay or Leased T1. Also known as MegaLink service.
