PTOP is a Scitex developed protocol that works in conjunction with a communications board that together moves large packets over Ethernet and FDDI in the prepress environments. The protocol supports 'off-the-shelf' LAN components, bridges and hubs, but most operate with routers, reaching near maximum possible rates (one megabyte/second) in its latest version.
