SOFT LIMIT

(n.) For disk quotas, a threshold limit on file system resources ( block s and inode s) that you can temporarily exceed. Exceeding the soft limit starts a timer. When you exceed the soft limit for the specified time (default one week), no further system resources are allocated till you reduce file system use below the soft limit.
