COLD OCCLUSION

Meaning of COLD OCCLUSION in English

If air (at the surface) behind an occluded front is colder than the air it is displacing (often the case in the NE Atlantic/maritime NW Europe), then the front is known as a cold occlusion. The occlusion may be shown on synoptic charts as a linear extension of the cold front. (see also Warm occlusion).
