large body of floating ice, in an indentation in the Indian Ocean coastline of Antarctica, west of the American Highland. Though its exact dimensions are unknown, it extends inland from Prydz and MacKenzie bays more than 200 miles (320 km) to the foot of Lambert Glacier. The region in which the ice shelf is located was claimed by Australia in 1933.
