a collection of short stories for children by Rudyard Kipling , published in 1894 and still popular today. They are about Mowgli, a young boy who grows up in the jungle and is taught how to survive by animals such as Mother Wolf, Baloo the bear and Bagheera the panther (= a large member of the cat family). The Second Jungle Book followed in 1895. The books have been made into several films, including the Walt Disney musical cartoon in 1967 and a film with Jason Scott Lee in 1994.
