NATIONAL SECURITY COUNCIL


Meaning of NATIONAL SECURITY COUNCIL in English

( abbr the NSC )

a committee responsible for advising the US President on matters of national security (= the protection of the nation and its interests) and defence policies. It was established by Congress in 1947. The President leads the committee’s meetings, and other NSC members are the Vice-president, the Secretary of State and the Secretary of Defense. They are advised by the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and the Director of the CIA .
