( in Britain ) a senior barrister who is appointed by the queen or king on the recommendation of the Lord Chancellor . He or she wears a silk gown (= a long loose piece of clothing worn over other clothes) and is also known as a ‘silk’. Other barristers are known as ‘juniors’. When a king is ruling the title becomes a King’s Counsel (KC) :
