a British dance company, based in London, which developed out of the ballet school started by Marie Rambert in 1920. From 1926, the school’s students gave regular public performances, and in 1934 a dance company was officially formed, then called the Ballet Rambert. It was directed by Marie Rambert until 1966. It then began to perform mostly modern dance and has performed all over the world. It took its present name in 1987.
